Was goin through the paper in The Star this morning when this article caught my eye: Outpouring of sympathy for little dog Joy. While this might seem like an ordinary article to you dear readers, it is in fact, much more than that.
To those of you who are too busy to read the paper lately, this article was somewhat of a happy ending to yet another article that appeared awhile back : Dog loses jaw after cruel beating.
On Dec 2, Sabrina Yeap of Furry Friends Farm rescued a little black dog. A normal lovable stray, but for the fact that its lower jaw was dangling and its tongue hanging out. Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen Joy, as he is later named, to have been beaten continuously by Indonesian workers at the Ki-Park Sri Utara construction site who kept calling the dog haram.
Although Joy’s tongue was saved despite the many lacerations and blood clots, its lower jaw had to be surgically removed.
“Joy will never be able to eat solid food again, to fetch a ball to play catch but at least he will be safe,” said Yeap.
Now I dont know what the world may be coming to, but this inhumane act of cruelty simply cant be ignored. Be it a human being, or even an animal, I dont see why we should show such disregard to the lives of all that is living. Is it only because, in this case, that it is “haram” by certain people that it must be subjected to such torture?
Yet we must not only blame religion in this matter. Some people, in regardless of religion or race, seem to have a thrill in killing animals. Some, would throw stones at dogs. Others, would run them down. Are we, the so-called “Childrens of God” behave in such an irresponsible manner? Well then, we can all go to hell.
After all, a man is not judged based on how he treats his equals, but on how he treats his inferiors. For all of you out there, show some respect. Value the lives of others, and not only yours. Cos the same thing, just might happen to you.
