Aquaria @ KLCC

One of the best thing bout still studying is the holidays and the ‘free-ness’. While some of my friends started work yesterday, I on the other hand was wondering where should I go to spend my day. Now, how many people have the luxury to do that? Haha

Been planning to visit Aquaria ever since it opened but hesitated for quite some time until I had some feedback from friends. So decided to visit it yesterday with my girlfriend: it was something like a replacement Valentine’s Day ( I had my dynamics exam on Valentine’s Day ). Traffic was smooth compared to the usual working days, but still it took us bout 45 mins from Subang to the KLCC convention centre parking.

The place wasn’t too difficult to find, it was right below the convention centre. The big building beside KLCC shopping complex. Immediately we head for the Aquaria for that was our main purpose yesterday. The service was quick and very efficient, within minutes, we were in looking at sea dwellers already. We got a sorta like door gift: a booklet with the map of Aquaria and also a short presentation cd.

Beside the entrance they have board explaining the evolution of sea dwellers and a tank consisting of sharks and sting rays and 3 separate touch pools. In each pool was nurse sharks, some crustacean and star fishes. Wanted to take picture holding the star fishes but the kids were kinda annoying. Coming in thru openings in between and sticking their head out just when you wanna snap a picture. Enough with that, after the touch pools, were the endangered turtles in the ‘Evolution’ part. Then we moved on to the ‘Jewels of the Jungle’. Freaking huge frogs and snakes can be seen here and also all sorts of insects and geckos you would never get to see unless of course you do jungle trekking.

After this section is when things get more interesting, more colourful or so to say. The ‘Flooded Forest’ section. Upon entering, you will see a 30 feet cylindrical tank with all sorts of fresh water fishes dwelling in it. It was quite a sight. Descending the flight of stairs, you will see a tank beside you with fishes as well. Do look out for this tank with humongous fishes in this section: Araipaima, giant catfishes and others which I don’t really know the names. There’s also an introductory tank in this section where they breed turtles and also baby sharks. Too bad I only have my digital camera with me that time, would be best if I took a video camera there.

Here comes the longest underwater tunnel in this SouthEast Asia region (or so I heard from announcement). It’s a 7500 square feet tank with all sorts of creatures in it, and you will be going thru the tank inside a tunnel, watching everything from beneath. It was so cool that we actually turned back for a second round haha. Right after we exit the tunnel, there’s this Aqua Teathre, where visitors can sit and look as the divers feed the fishes in the tank:the same tank that we were walking thru just now. After that would be the last part, Weird and Wonderful section where all sorts of weird creatures are shown in. And of course, a souvenir shop: one particular item caught our attention. It resembles both the human male and females’ sexual organs, haha do check that one out.

All in all, double thumbs up for Aquaria KLCC. It could be better if they could make it bigger, as in more creatures, more stuff. And best if they could separate the normal crowd and the family crowd: children can be quite a pain in the a*s sometimes. I highly recommend this place, might visit it again (not anytime too soon, tho.. ).

Here are some pictures (best to go see it yourself):
