Duck King

I have been in Subang USJ for a few years now, I can say with a certain amount of confidence that there is nothing worth shouting about in Subang when it comes to food, with a few exceptions (mostly franchise based food outlets). So most people would have to travel to other places in search of good food. PJ, KL, Puchong and etc, why dont people open some decent restaurants here in USJ? I dont blame restaurateurs coz people dont seem to appreciate good food here, its the presentation that matters, from my own opinion.

But anyway, back to the topic. I was introduced to this place by Caiyin, who frequent the place quite often. So I decided to celebrate Mother’s Day there with my family. I was rather surprised to see the place, was expecting an air conditioned chicken/duck rice place coz of the name. Instead what I saw was a fairly classy place with a nice menu and uniformed waiter/waitresses to match. But because it was at night and I was placed outside of the shop, I couldnt take any decent pictures to post up here. The environment and service is fairly decent, altho sometimes when the traffic was heavy, we had to pour the tea ourselves. But no big deal.

The next thing that surprised me was the menu. They have sharks fin and abalone!! I mean heck, who would have expected a place named “Duck King” to have those. So for the dinner we ordered this spicy fried lala, tauhu with minced pork, duck (of course), and this vege… pardon me for not having any pictures and not remembering the name of the dishes. I wanted the sharks fin soup but got f*cked by my mom, waste of money she said. Man… it’s not like she’s paying for it.. I am. The duck arrived first and my, does it taste good! It has to, for obvious reason. The rest of the dishes was very good as well. And the dessert.. we had a few, just to try, the almond milk something, the kuai ling kou and a few others. The dessert was abit disappointing tho.. I had higher expectations for it after what the chefs has pulled off for dinner. It’s not bad but its not eye opening good as well. However there was this one dessert that is Faaantastic!! It was this Golden Sand pau or a.k.a Lau Sa Pau. Here’s a picture of the pau and the duck dish (got it online, hope the blogger doesnt mind)

The dinner costed my bout RM 150. Money well spent I would say.

Having tried dinner at the place, I was planning to try their dim sum as well. 2 weeks back, my family decided to visit the place again!! For dim sum this time, awesome.. we had the usual dim sum stuff; siu mai, har kau, lo mai kai and the lot, and of course the golden sand pau haha. And I have to say, I have not tried anything bad so far at this place. I would highly recommend this place.

Tonight, I brought my cousins family there to celebrate my nephew’s 8th birthday and my cousin being the food lover, ordered plenty of different stuff with no monetary constraints. We ordered Shun Hok fish, which was second only to the Golden Dragon Boat restaurant in Jalan Imbi, KL. And there was duck, siew yok, soups and the golden sand pau again haha. This stuff is so awesome I just have to have it everytime I visit the place. And so SORRY I didnt manage to get any pictures again! But I promise I will post up pictures next time.

All in all, I would recommend this place to anyone anytime. Decent pricing as well. But do book in advance for dinner and dim sum because the place would be swarmed. :-)

MIFC

On the first day we went on Merdeka, we somehow managed to get pass the ticket collecting area but didnt have the chance to get into the observation hall because someone raised suspicion by asking where’s the toilet haha. You know who you are. On the last finale day, however, traffic was completely different, it was jam packed and it took us bout 1 hour plus to find a ‘proper’ parking. And I would like to apologise to Zac for making him go with us that day. Haha my bad.. and it was also my first time, parking on the fifth row..

Here are some of the pics I took:

10 000!

Well… almost. It’s been a year plus since I opened this blog with a couple of guys and now that I look back at it, it has served it’s purpose well enough for me. If not for this I would have forgotten bout our adopted dog, Gordon, our get togethers and etc.

Much has changed in this period of time, the most obvious change would be Mr. Zac no longer trying to match my posts counts ( coz I’m not writing that often anymore, haha). My dog is no longer with my friend ( she gave it away, WTF). And I now have a magnificent aquarium at home =) ( it’s subjective, Zac). And we’re now slightly closer to the ever elusive final year of our course. Time seem to pass so freaking slowly..

Well.. gtg back to studying for my CADCAM examination tmr…

The site is not dead and check back for more stuff.. might take awhile tho..Ciao

New Found Hobby

Recently, I have re-discovered one of my old family instilled hobbies: fishes and aquarium. Brought up in a house with 5 aquariums left quite an impression on me. My late grandpa was a fish lover and made us help him with cleaning the tank and maintenance. It’s quite rare for guys especially my age to take up this hobby.

My cousin and I had a “brainstorming” session to decide how to best decorate his tank, something was wrong. Fishes keep dying and the tank is starting to look boring. It’s a 5ft x 2ft x 3ft tank and uses an overflow filtration system. And here are the end results:

dsc02863.jpg

The cost :

RM 43 x 2 = RM 86.00 for the backing

RM 40 x 2 = RM 80.00 for the light coloured sand

RM 20 for the dark coloured pebbles

RM 10 for the red coloured sand

RM 43 for the fertilizer

RM 7 for the round air diffuser

RM 28 for the UV light

RM 35 for the Black water

RM 28 for the Tiger Barbs

RM 20 for the new piping

So, all in all we spent bout RM 350 to redo everything. Looks awesome now. Not bad for my first custom aquarium, huh. Interesting hobby, I gotta say. Till next time.

Writing for the sake of writing

It’s has really been AWHILE since any of us here wrote anything. Can’t be bothered maybe..

So anyway I’ve decided to write something, just for the sake of writing. I’m on holidays right now and can’t seem to find any job yet; probably because my flyers aren’t attractive enough and the holidays is too short for anyone to want to use me, even for part time. So I’m just bumming around, do house chores, occasionally go out to see what has changed, and of course, looking for jobs.

Much has happened since I last wrote, but the most significant one would be the passing of one of my uncle. It was much earlier than anticipated. It had quite an impact on me, he really took care of his nephews and nieces when we were small ( how many would be bothered, right? ) and when we grew older, he still cares for us. At least he doesn’t need to suffer anymore now.

And a few other events, Sepang, Beach and etc, etc.

My creative juices seem to have dried out for now, so.. till the next post.

Food Robbed

Yesterday 1st of April, to me this day doesn’t make me wanna play a prank on people anymore. And the whole day was pretty normal, until..

As usual I was scratching my head thinking of where to go for dinner and who to go with. Found myself a companion but unfortunately the Malay restaurant nearby my place was closed. Probably earned too much and they wanna break or something. So settled for Mcdonald’s. Everything went on normally, you queue to buy food, find yourself a place, get sauce, and eat. Well, things didn’t really went as ‘planned’, we left our food on the table and went and get sauce. When we got back, guess what I saw??

A Malay kid around maybe 10 years old was eating MY fries. So we stood there and looked, confused as to how I should react. And it took him quite a few fries to actually noticed I was there!! He looked up at me, then walked away! How rude.. the moment this thought came to me, he turned around and said : Bang, boleh ambil sikit?? (Big bro, can I have a few fries?). I was stunned, haha I mean, you ate them kid even if I say no what you gonna do? But anyway, not that I can’t spend him a few fries but I’ll be more than happy if he would ask, instead of steal. Out of curiousity, I scanned the area for the table he was at, and his pile of fries was even larger than mine! Weird…maybe it was convenient..Good thing he didn’t open my burger and take a bite, I would be really pissed.

When I thought I saw enough for the day, there was this group of freshies from our university too I guess (overheard some common terms). They were taking pictures with the Mcd’s “M“. Glass panel with the ubiquitous “M“. I might do the same thing for the “M” in BMWs. Oh well, in both cases, the “M” factor was there. They were sitting around it and if I calculated correctly, about 10 or more attempts were made to get the picture ‘just right’. After awhile, they got tired playing with the timer on the camera phone so one of them turned to us and ask my housemate to take the pic for them and said “Please, include the “M” in the picture”. I was trying so hard to not laugh out loud, almost choked on my fries. I don’t blame them, maybe it was the first time they’ve been to Mcds and wanna take a pic for sweet memories.

But, then again… maybe it was all prank, maybe there was a hidden camera to record our reactions and post it up somewhere. like those american shows..but i doubt it..

Moral of the story : Do not leave your fries unattended, especially in the Mcd’s Bangi Branch. Nothing is safe anymore.

Honesty Does Pay

Honestly I didn’t think that the above saying holds any truth until yesterday’s fateful incident happened.

My coursemate and I was caught during Statistics mid term exam yesterday night. He was trying to make out some number with BOTH his hands (i think it was a number 11, not that it matters) and ask me for the answer to that question. Unfortunately, the moment his hands formed that number 11, the lecturer immediately came over and took down his name and student card ID. I was quite relieved until he turned to my side and took mine too!! I mean what did I do? Damn..

So spent the whole night thinking bout the possible outcomes of that event and I was prepared to fail that paper. So anyway decided not to sit around guessing what will happen to us, we went and see him this morning. Waited in front of his office bout half an hour or so.

First question that was thrown at us : Did you guys try to communicate??

Fren : Yea… abit.. wanna ask 1 question

Lect : I’ll respect you if you didnt try to copy even tho you don’t know. But since both of you came and admit your mistakes, I’ll let you guys off this time. no more next time. And as for another guy, as long as he doesn’t show up her and apologise, he’ll get a 0.

Woah… talk about honesty… seriously didn’t expect that

Was expecting him to fail me for that test, and I can prepare myself for finals to cover this failure. Honesty does pay off. Good thing we didn’t try to deny it. No more hand gestures anymore, learn from mistake Hock Lai.

Aquaria @ KLCC

One of the best thing bout still studying is the holidays and the ‘free-ness’. While some of my friends started work yesterday, I on the other hand was wondering where should I go to spend my day. Now, how many people have the luxury to do that? Haha

Been planning to visit Aquaria ever since it opened but hesitated for quite some time until I had some feedback from friends. So decided to visit it yesterday with my girlfriend: it was something like a replacement Valentine’s Day ( I had my dynamics exam on Valentine’s Day ). Traffic was smooth compared to the usual working days, but still it took us bout 45 mins from Subang to the KLCC convention centre parking. Continue reading ‘Aquaria @ KLCC’
